BRIXHAM

about brixham

It is a vibrant and busy fishing port on the south coast of Devon. It is one of a trio of towns that make up Torbay, known as the English Riviera, Torquay and Paignton being the other two.

We are the home of the World famous Brixham Fish Market, which is the highest grossing market of quality fresh fish in the country. They sell the best and freshest fish to the many excellent restaurants that nestle around the harbour. One thing that Brixham is not short of and that is places to eat and drink with all tastes and budgets catered for, whether it be a top quality al a carte restaurant, prawn cocktail and a glass of wine sat by the harbour or traditional fish and chips eaten out of the box.

If your looking for a couple of relaxing days away, your time can be spent mooching around the many artisan shops that the town has to offer , or you might like a gentle stroll long the harbour walkway to the marina and out towards the Victorian Breakwater, stopping off for refreshments along the way.

If you’re after something more energetic, Brixham has many beautiful walks on offer, whether it be to the Napoleonic Fort at Berry Head or the South Devon Coastal Path to Paignton or Kingswear – there is something for everyone. In the summer, the ferries run from the pier and can take you for a 30 minute trip across the bay to Torquay, a daytrip up the River Dart to Totnes , via picturesque Dartmouth or an evening cruise around the bay, spotting the many dolphins and seals that frequent our waters.

If it’s a day at the seaside that you’re after, we have plenty of beaches and little coves to explore. You may choose the long sandy beaches of nearby Broadsands and Goodrington or a bit nearer to home you will find Elberry Cove, Churston Quay and Fishcombe Cove, which boasts a beachside café. Further around the harbour, you will find the popular Breakwater Beach, a pebble beach but very well used by locals and visitors alike. The jewel in the crown is the outdoor lido at Shoalstone, this is a free saltwater swimming pool that is refreshed as the high tide laps over the side of the pool. A great place for families and couples to sit and look across our beautiful bay . St Mary’s Bay and Mansands are more rugged beaches and not quite so accessible but this also makes them a quieter option if you want to avoid the crowds.
